Terminology Tasks
For Tableau, terminology is a key component and an important factor of the quality of translation. That is why terminology tasks are frequently requested by client. There can be various terminology tasks throughout the month but the most frequent ones are:
Terminology Harvesting - this refers to extraction of new terms from UI content and helps us keep up with the new Tableau features and terminology. Once the terms are extracted, linguists are asked to translate these terms in a 🔗harvesting sheet. It is very important that the target translations match what's already been used in translation to avoid creating inconsistencies. Since this task is always done during the translation of UI project, if you are working on this terminology harvesting task, make sure to check the target translations in Phrase. All the terms then go to client who approves them and Language Analyst, Mirka, then adds them into the terminology database.
Ad-hoc Terminology Translation Tasks - regularly, we identify new terms outside the harvesting task, and when we do, Language Analyst sends out an email asking for help with the term translation. There is a 🔗Google Sheet that is used for this purpose, with each term (or group of terms) in a separate tab. Before translating these terms, make sure you understand the definition and context of the term - it's always included in the table. Just like during harvesting, if the term is already used in UI/UA, please make sure to suggest existing translation rather than inventing a new one, so the consistency is maintained.
Key Term Mismatch Check - this is a check we do sporadically and mostly on UI content. The workflow is similar to ➡️TM Maintenance tasks for UI, with the report that linguists are asked to comment and we implement into TM on our end. Recently, client decided to run a key term mismatch regularly on Branding terms since those are more sensitive and it's important to have the terms translated correctly.
